my work & portfolio
While I have been sewing clothes for myself for many years, it wasn’t until I started making my own costumes that I truly learned more about my sewing machine, sewing techniques, and improving my sewing skills. Because I’m a curvy cosplayer, I make all of my patterns from scratch because of the lack of options for ‘plus-sized’ cosplayers. This has been a huge benefit and forced me to improve my skills and knowledge to create better fitting costumes every time.
My first ‘official’ cosplay was a quick green tunic made from cheap cotton fabric and some handmade fuzzy bunny ears that lost the will to stand up on their own just minutes into my first MomoCon. I was Louise from Bob’s Burgers and I had a blast in my very own cosplay! Since then, I’ve been improving my skills and trying difference variations on my favorite characters. My dream is to complete an entire set of Star Wars cosplays to wear to a Star Wars Celebration. One day. If the Force is with me.

Couture is the art and skill of dressmaking and sewing clothes that are made-to-measure. It’s the opposite of fast fashion, which is clothing that is mass produced to fit a general range of sizes. Couture cosplay is the art and skill of creating fashionable made-to-measure costumes that are a bit more intricate, detailed, and elaborate in nature, leaning more towards fashion as well as cosplay.

closet cosplay
Closet cosplay is creating costumes by putting together items in your closet. This can also be known as closet costuming, casual cosplay, or casual costuming. Because you aren’t in an actual costume, closet cosplay is a subtle way to represent your favorite characters and fandoms. ‘If you know, you know.’ The idea of closet cosplay is to find subtle ways to find and wear everyday cosplay from your closet. That way you’re not in obvious costume all the time, but you know and those who know also know. Like a chameleon.
